Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 9, 2026

Oxford City Guide ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains essential app processing and the optional analytics and crash diagnostics that you can control independently. It applies to the app in its supported English, French, and Japanese languages.

1. Summary

  • Optional analytics: PostHog is off by default and only enabled after you opt in.
  • Optional diagnostics: Sentry is off by default and requested separately from analytics.
  • Your control: Change either choice in Settings → “Analytics & Diagnostics”.
  • On-Device Location: Location is processed on your device in real time and is not stored or transmitted to us.

2. Location Data

We access your device’s precise location while you use the app to:

  • Show your current position on the map
  • Center the map and provide nearby points of interest
  • Offer guided tour experiences relevant to your location
  • We do not access location in the background; location is only used while the app is open.

Location information is processed on-device only and is not stored, shared, or transmitted to our servers, PostHog, or Sentry. You can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings; location-dependent features will be unavailable when disabled.

3. App Permissions

  • Location (While In Use, Precise): Used for map centering, nearby POIs, and tour guidance.
  • Microphone: Not used. We do not record audio.
  • Notifications: Not used (if introduced in the future, this policy will be updated).
  • Photos/Media: Not used.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Local Storage: Map tiles, points of interest (POIs), and app preferences may be cached locally for performance and offline use.
  • Server processing: Feedback text is sent to Supabase with a related POI or tour ID (when available) and a timestamp. Please do not include personal information in feedback.
  • Secure Transport: All network requests (e.g., to retrieve content) use HTTPS.

5. Third-Party Services

  • Map Data: We use OpenStreetMap-based map data. No personal information is shared with map data providers.
  • Content Delivery: We use Supabase/CDN services to deliver app content (e.g., POIs). No personal or location data is transmitted to these services.
  • PostHog analytics: If you opt in, we send anonymous, coarse events such as app opened, tour started, audio playback, offline use, or feedback submitted. Events may include app version, platform, OS major version, selected language, and a coarse tour or POI content ID. They do not include location, precise GPS data, route traces, feedback text, names, email addresses, advertising IDs, or cross-app tracking identifiers. PostHog hosts the data in the EU and retains events for up to 12 months. See PostHog’s privacy policy and data processing information.
  • Sentry diagnostics: If you separately opt in, reports may include crash/performance diagnostics, app version, OS version, device model, and a coarse failure category. URLs’ query strings, authentication tokens, GPS coordinates, and entered text are redacted before transmission. Sentry does not knowingly receive your feedback text, location, credentials, names, email addresses, or advertising IDs. Events are retained for up to 90 days. See Sentry’s privacy policy and data processing terms.

6. Children’s Privacy

Our app is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention and deletion

App preferences, cached content, and consent choices remain local until you uninstall the app. Feedback is retained until you request deletion. Opted-in PostHog events are retained for up to 12 months and opted-in Sentry events for up to 90 days. Uninstalling removes local data but does not by itself delete data already sent to Supabase, PostHog, or Sentry.

See Delete your data to submit a request. We may need details to identify feedback or an anonymous analytics/diagnostics record.

7. International Users

This app is available worldwide. If you are using the app outside of the United Kingdom, please note that your data may be processed in accordance with UK data protection laws.

8. Your Rights and Choices

  • You can disable location permissions in device settings.
  • You can remove locally cached data by uninstalling the app.
  • Change or withdraw analytics and crash-diagnostics consent in Settings → “Analytics & Diagnostics”.
  • Opting out stops future collection; it does not retroactively delete data already sent. Use the data deletion form for a deletion request.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, may provide additional notice in the app or on our website.

10. Contact Us
